Now this is an old classic! I can remember playing this game for hours at Don Carters bowling ally in Margate FL. You will find that Afterburner is a pretty straight forward aero dog fight videogame game. You will have the option of using missiles that lock on to enemy aircraft as well as using your guns to take out the enemy. This game will take on many different missions that will keep you flying high.
One of the great features of this game is the fancy acrobat maneuver that you will get to use through all of the dog fights.
I highly recommend trying to use some kind of joystick for the maneuvering on this game. Now please keep in mind that this game is not a full fledged air combat flight simulator. Many of the maneuvers will take place automatically as well as the shooting but none the less this game is a lot of fun.
The graphics are very appealing on this game as well. The scenes are moving by so quickly though it can be a little tough to keep up. These scenes take you over different kinds of simulated landscapes. You will have ocean landscapes where you will take off from air craft carriers, as well of mountainous landscapes as well as typical looking flat landscapes.
While whizzing through these scenes and
trying to shoot at everything that moves, your biggest challenging will be not to actually get killed. Your maneuvering skills are what really count in this game and the farther you go in this game the harder it will get. This game is set up on a reverse axis which will give you the most natural feel for guiding your aircraft through all of the enemy aircrafts missiles and gun fire.
All this fun with Afterburner and to top it off your plane is an F14 tomcat. This plane was made popular in the 1980’s film which was about a 1st class navy fighter pilot school called TOP GUN. I am sure you have seen it! All in all, this game come highly recommended especially for the war aircraft game aficionados as well as your normal pilot and everyday gamer. I am sure that with a good bit of practice you will be able to master this game. This game was not only available for the typical arcade, but for the Sega system.
