Astro Fire is a great step up from the original Atari version played on those old 1970's style game counsels that you sit at and everything is black and white with extremely poor graphics. This version of the game seems to be pretty much the same game, but it has been updated quite a bit. There is a attractive picture of a planet (appears to be Saturn) that provides a very colorful background.
The spaceship is actually something that looks like a spaceship instead of a computer mouse cursor.

The spaceship is actually something that looks like a spaceship instead of a computer mouse cursor. The asteroids are also in color and give a 3D style effect. The game play is much smoother and easier on the eyes. Although, it is much more attractive looking than the old original, I must
say that this game is no replacement of the original Atari version. You can't sit across from your opponent and have drawn out battles with each other. I must warn you though, this is a very addictive game and you will have a hard time walking away from this game without achieving the high score every time.
Although it is extremely addictive, the novelty of this game will wear off eventually, so it will not ruin your life, especially your love life or your career. This is a very simple game to play and it is a good game for someone who doesn't like complexity and is a good game for children to play. Another disadvantage this game has over the original Atari version is that because it is a computer game, it won't double as a coffee table.
However, this game is portable if you have a laptop, and if you are a lover of Asteroids, this is the game for you. This is a great game to play with your friends and try to compete at who is the best defender from killer asteroids. Compared to other games, I wouldn't say this game is the best, or even close to the best, but it does offer better graphics than the old DOS games, and the simpleness of the game makes it an enjoyable game to play.
