Avoid the Noid

Genre: Arcade    |     Year: 1987    |     Publisher: Freeware    |     Developer: BlueSky Software, Inc.
Game Review 1 (written by Jesseharrison) Added on: 12/18/2008
Avoid The Noid was a game introduced in the late 80's early 90's. It is a platform style game which has similarities to Commander Keen. It was designed for Commodore 64 and MS DOS. The game was designed to promote the pizza company "Dominos".
In the game you are a pizza delivery boy who must deliver a pizza to "DOOM INDUSTRIES" which is conveniently located at the top of a very tall apartment building that is filled with Noids and other fun traps.
Since the name of the game is in fact Avoid the Noid, you might be wondering how you can do this. You, or your pizza boy, have a number of different ways to avoid that annoying little Noid. These Noid avoiding abilities include, run roll walk and do a kind of flip jump. The player also gets a set of "Noid Avoiders" which are kind of like little Noid bombs. Once the player uses a "Noid Avoider" any Noids that were on the players screen will disappear. The floors of Avoid the Noid are tricky.
Each level has three floors or sections. The player must run to the right side of the screen, get in an elevator which will

take him to floor two, run to the left side of the screen get in an elevator which will take him to floor three, and then run right across the floor to the final elevator which will take him to the next level. In each level there are a many number of traps set up by the Noids. These traps include things such as trap doors. Trap doors will drop you down to the floor before the one you were on. These doors can be very annoying. Other traps include phone bombs. A phone bomb is when you must use the phone and enter a three digit number to obtain a key. If you enter this number wrong, the Noid who is on the phone with you will blow you and your pizza up. Phones are used to find keys. Keys are needed because after the first levels you will find that the elevators are locked. Other traps include pizza seeking rockets and Noids that have rocket launchers. Also watch out for Noids that will leap out of elevators at random to try and destroy your pizza.
Finally, when you finally get to the top floor to the place where you have to deliver the pizza, don’t think you are done. Before you can get into the room and complete the game you have to go to the roof to get keys. While you are on the roof you will be battered with water balloons from Noids in airplanes. You have to be careful because even though the Noids can’t hit himself, the water balloons will ruin the pizza.
Hope you enjoy playing the game.

Game Review 2 (written by Melcastro) Added on: 10/03/2006
Avoid the Noid was originally Domino's Pizza's Name to Fame. It was used in many commercials over its lifespan. Then someone came up with the crazy idea to make a game out of it. You play as a pizza delivery man (boy) who delivers pizzas (no surprise there) to Doom Industries. You are given 30 minutes to complete the delivery before the customer receives a discount and you loose (by loosing you job.) It is pretty much a platform game.
You have to contend with various things like phone calls and traps along the way. You have not a single weapon or banana to throw or use, but it is a pretty fun game to play for awhile. This is a rare EGA version of the game. The graphics are nice and smooth. Although they are only 16 colors. The animations are Smooth and are nicely done for the age of the game. If you like this game you would probably like Elevator. It is kind of the same game.

This was one of the first if not the first game created solely for the purposes of marketing, I laughed about it even as a 12 year old kid when it came out.
