Batman: The Movie is a pretty decent video game based upon a movie. I remember playing this originally for the Sega Genesis, and it was a pretty good time killer. I personally feel like most action games at this time were not that great, this one included, but it was pretty fun.
The game walks you through the basic plot of the movie, including the chemical plant where Jack Napier falls into the vat of chemicals and become the joker. Later you fight your way through the streets of Gotham, do a little fighting in the bat-mobile, and even take to the skies in the Bat.
..plane? Is that what it’s called? Anyway, you eventually make your way to the cathedral where you get to finally face off against the big bad joker.
The game includes all of the basics of a sixteen bit machine's action game, including lots of platform jumping. People jump out at you from the side of the screen, and you have to fight them before you move on to more walking in a two dimensional screen. You get to fight with some basic punches and kicks, or you can go so far as to jump and attack. If you really would like some variety in your bag of tricks, you can pick up some batarangs along the way and throw them at the unfortunate henchmen who
get in the way.
There are, of course, boss fights at the end of the levels, along with henchmen of varying difficulties (obviously the later levels have more difficult minions to fight). Overall, however, the difficulty of this game is fairly low. It can easily be beaten in a few hours. This is probably due to the fact that there is no save feature on a Sega Genesis. Because of this the game is short, incredibly short. Overall, I guess I would say that this is an entertaining distraction, which, I suppose, is what a video game is supposed to be. It isn’t anything great, and has no real replay value, but its good for an afternoon.
