Galagon is an arcade classic space action game in the style of fan-favourite Space Invaders. Essentially, it is a clone of the arcade hit Galaga. The user controls a paddle on the bottom of the screen that is shaped roughly like a small space fighter ship. Wave after wave of different alien enemies from the Galagon Empire enter the screen and rain missiles down upon the ship below them. The user must navigate the fighter out of the way
of these ballistics and shoot his or her own missiles back at the aliens, destroying them as quickly as possible. Once all of the aliens are removed from a level, play progresses to the next wave of alien attack. This pattern continues until all of the user’s lives, shown by a row of miniature space ships in the corner, have been used up.
CHAMP Galagon features two modes of play. The nostalgic arcade gamer can choose to play in Classic mode, which is identical to the classic Galagon of old. Users looking for the old fun with some new style can play in CHAMP mode, and experience the refurbished look, as well as some fun add-ons. Both modules offer single or two-player experiences.
CHAMP Galagon remains faithful to the CHAMP series in general. It is a faithful recreation of the old classics, but the graphics, colours and sound are much improved. There is more detail to the Galagon alien invaders, and their missiles and special attacks are more colourful and cool. Likewise, the power ups for the space hero are somewhat different, and there are more details on the fighter ship. Whereas most gamers knew where to position the paddle at the beginning of each wave, having memorized the attack patterns, CHAMP Galagon offers new waves of attack that will throw the user off and likely see him dead. Overall, this is fun play in the CHAMP series, loaded with nostalgia, miniature explosions, and classic space arcade action fun.
