This game brings back memories of my DOS computing days. Of course, you can expect the less than perfect graphics, but I loved it. I played this game a lot, because it was one of the few good ones I had. I found it to be hard at first, but I had to keep playing to get my timing right so I didn't lose any lives in the beginning, because I found myself struggling at the end. The more lives you had at the end, the better.
(Struggling in a DOS game? Hey it happens!)
Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers: The Adventure in Nimnul's Castle is a game of skill... it's all about timing. There are nine levels total. The goal of the game is to get Chip and Dale inside Nimnul's castle, and collect all the blue bolts needed to fix the Rescue Ranger's makeshift plane they need to rescue Monterey Jack who is in the castle. Chip and Dale have three chances (lives).
The first three levels (1-3) you are outside of the castle, getting closer to the castle door as the levels progress. You must guide Chip and Dale in and out holes in the ground, while evading dropping green acid from the castle above you, as well as chomping
metal robot dogs that can eat you.
The next three levels (4-6), you are in the castle, ascending steps closer to the next challenge. Chip must collect these blue bolts scattered across the step. After collecting one, he must drop it down to Dale a step under him, who will store it, and will return for the next bolt Chip drops. There are five bolts on each step, in all three levels.
The next three levels, which I believe are the last (7-9), Chip and Dale are in this room with a crazy contraption with grabbing hands. Chip must climb along a bar above the machine, collecting blue bolts again, while avoiding grabbing hands. After collecting a blue bolt, Chip must drop it to Dale on the floor. There are five bolts total in all three levels, and the grabbing hands become more wild. (Watching Chip and Dale climb up stairs between each of these levels wastes time, but it's funny to watch the graphics compared to the stuff we see today).
After all that, I'm not sure what happens, you'll have to find out for yourself. But I only recommend this game if you are really bored and want old DOS memories back. Happy playing!
