Cyril Cyberpunk was alternatively titled the Cyberboard Kid. It was both developed and released by Reality Studios in the middle nineties. It is a two dimensional scrolling platform game that was developed for DOS and later Windows formats.
The premise behind Cyril Cyberpunk is pretty silly, although fun. The world is under attack by mutant killer teddy bears from space…possibly the most threatening creatures in the world, save Ren and Stimpy’s Kodiak Marmosets. It is in the future, the year 2224, and Cyril Smith is scanning the galactic air waves from his home.
He intercepts a message from the killer teddy bears and learns of their plans. Sure that he can save the day, he prepares to go to Central Park, where he traced the signal. He arms himself with his trusty pellet gun, grabs his trusty steed (the cyber skateboard), and rides off to face and defeat this menace…the mutated cyborg teddy bears.
Cyril Cyberpunk plays very similar to the Commander Keen games. It is a non-violent action shooter that is great fun for the whole family. The animated graphics are very cartoony and are cute as opposed to threatening. The idea of killer teddy bears attacking the Earth is too silly for kids not to enjoy it, and the enemies that Cyril will face (besides
the mutated teddy bears) are as wacky as the theme would lead one to expect. Another reason that Cyril Cyberpunk makes a good family download is the fact that it offers three difficulty settings, so users can change it based on their own skill level. In this manner, younger gamers can play without getting frustrated, and older ones can still find some challenge in this goofy platform game.
For some reason, Cyril Cyberpunk, despite its unusual theme, is completely addicting. The levels are numerous, vividly colorful and very well done. There are thirty two total levels, and three secret ones, if you can find them. The levels are filled with great mazes, twists, turns and action around every corner. Cyril Cyberpunk also offers a level editor, which can also be a lot of fun.
In total, this is a surprisingly unique little scrolling platform game that features a family-friendly but off beat theme. It is appropriate for children of all ages, but still has merit for adult play. Grab the flying Cyberboard and download this one now. It will keep you playing for hours.
