I first played this game when I was younger. At the time, there was nothing else like it. It’s clearly used the marathon engine as I could tell by the graphics and animations. The gameplay is good, and so are the graphics.
You also get to command a team of troops and tell them what to do. You get to storm locations and clear them of terrorists with a variety of weapons such as a machine guns a grenade launcher and even a rocket launcher too.
If you’re feeling brave you can turn on your teammates and kill them all and just do the mission yourself which is good fun. I remember it being quite difficult but at the same time exciting, with a variety of levels to work through and I think up to 4 team members to order around.
The sound is also pretty good too. Good background noises such as running water, howling wolves and more. One of the best guns is the shotgun which simply blows enemies away. I would recommend this game to anyone who’s up for a bit of old school shot ‘em ups, to relive the glory of the early first person shooters. I don’t recall any music in the game but maybe I just
missed them.
Your team gradually gets larger as you ascend through the levels and you can interact with them via radio commands and give orders such as go ahead and stay of to follow you. There’s also an interesting gore system in the game which is as funny as it is disgusting. If you fire a rocket an enemy (or a team mate for that matter) they will basically get blown back and turn inside out into a mushy bloody pulp carcass lol.
I remember the game being rather challenging and taking quite a while to complete. It was a great game and even better than marathon in my opinion due to the wide diversity of new environments and the upgrades in gameplay and sound, graphics. These include forest areas, urban areas and not only diversity in the places but in the enemies as well. Different uniformed terrorists armed to the teeth with some deadly weapons. I even remember a rocket flying past my ear one time, and I think it hit one of my teammates, needless to say, our team was one card short of a full deck. I hope this review is a benefit to you, it’s a good game, a real classic.
