Game Review 1 (written by Empireofjc) Added on: 03/23/2007
As the story goes, an experiment in telepathic science has gone terribly wrong, leaving gateways to hell wide open. Set on the moons of planet Mars, your character is charged with survival in an ugly, toxic mess of zombies and chemicals. Level after endless level of navigating rooms, slaying zombies, dodging attacks and avoiding exposure to entire swamps of toxic waste matter are enough to keep any classic gamer interested.
The game offers plenty of weapons, health, rewards, and 9 levels of gameplay for each of 3 episodes.

Doom had a huge impact on the PC gaming experience, including the creation of the gaming "deathmatch", popular now in almost every fighting game. It also pioneered community-based game
DoomDoomDoom
modification, or MOD-making. Mods for Doom offer a completely different atmosphere and include home-brewed themes like Ghostbusters, South Park, Dragon Ball Z, and everything in between.
The graphics for Doom are pretty awesome, considering the game runs well on first and second generation 486-based machines. The sounds were standard the fare for their time: Sound Blaster compatible stereo.

Game Review 2 (written by Shadowbyrn) Added on: 03/23/2007
Doom is probably the best and most defining game in the FPS genre.
Every FPS game since it has borrowed something from it's successful formula. The game itself is very simple: get to the end without dying. Along the way you will run into some creepy things at first....and then it gets worse. It turns out that the moon bases have been taken over by Hell, and you are going to see what really happened. I remember playing this game sooo much as a kid and trying so hard to survive the end sequence of the first episode, where the hero dies. Even now with today's bigger games I can't seem to find a game that leaves you with a WTF feeling quite like Doom did for me.
Graphically the game is actually pretty good. Pixelated by today's standards, but the monsters are still creepy. The sounds in the game are what really sets it apart from games of its time. The game engine can tell where you are and if sound will reach and tick off an enemy. It seems like such a simple thing, but it really adds to the game. You will walk into a room and there will be a whole army with their backs to you and they haven't seen you yet. As long as you are quiet, they won't move. But make a single sound and they will all turn on you. But if only one sees you, he will go after you alone.
And this lead to another awesome part of the game - monster fighting. If a demon hits a different kind of demon with its attack accidentally, it will hurt the other one. But instead of going after you, the victim of the poor aim will turn on the thing with the poor aim! It was very common to see a mixed group tear itself apart before trying to do the same thing to you. So back at the room of demons and only one sees you thing: if it is a different kind, say a Baron and the others are all Imps. You can just hide behind the Imps and let the Baron try to get to you. It will try to shoot through the Imps, ticking them off and they will then try to kill him! But the Baron is much stronger than the Imps, so naturally several of the Imps, or even all of them, die before the Baron is down. Very rarely will you find this in ANY game now that implements it so beautifully as Doom did.

10/10 in Conclusion.

Doom is a classic first person shooter that led to the eventual brilliance of today's games such as Halo. Graphics were great and the idea that you would go to hell to blast demons makes Doom one of the greatest shooters in history.

This game was the very first FPS I played, and boy it kept me playing. I even played it all the way through, and it took me 6 months just to beat it on that mode. Fantastic game, easy to jump into, and hard to stop playing.

This game was arguably well ahead of its time. First game on LAN. Doom was a pedestal for all we see today.

Classic game.

Wadofdoom (04/05/2008)
Doom is one of my all time favorite games. I still play it often all these years later. This is one of the games that got me interested in designing my own games. Of course all the great fan made wads and upgrades have helped to maintain my interest as well. A must have to go with the Doom wad is an upgrade package called Doomsday. Look for that and experience classic Doom with modern graphics and sounds!

Doom is a grounbreaker. The original Doom was not as scary per say, as the more recent additions to the collection, but yet in it's own right, it's still one of the most frightening. Doom brings about a era of video gaming that reaches down to the recesses of something that most peole fear the most. It has a gripping story line and pretty good graphics. Yet the ability to gun down demonic monsters while trying not to lose it with fear is one of the things I can remember the most about playing it and something that will stick with me. One of best things about Doom, just looking at it from a nostalgic point of view is that it is classic in it's simplicity.
