Fight for your life in Double Dragon II: The Revenge- the classic arcade version of the sequel to the two-player cooperative smash hit- Double Dragon. Billy and Jimmy Lee (the Double Dragons) return to this two-player cooperative for twice the action and adventure of the first. This time, The Black Warriors have murdered your beloved Marion (she was kidnapped in the first), and the Dragons find themselves on a mission for her revenge. Kick and punch your way through four extended, face blasting levels, with a whole new assortment of weapons and projectiles.
The gameplay for this sequel has been modified slightly from the first. Instead of the usual buttons of punch and kick, there's “Front Attack”, and “Rear Attack”. The third button of “Jump” remains the same. Tapping the attack buttons will perform a combination of punches and kicks against your foe. Depending on your distance from your adversary, the Dragon might grab the enemy for a series of knees to the face hits, followed by an elbow or kick that knocks them to the ground. Pressing “Rear attack” while facing one direction will give you a rear back-kick. Pressing “Jump” then “Attack” will perform a powerful jump-kick.
In addition to these basic attacks, you will find a new assortment of weapons that are
comparable to those found in the first. Instead of a bat, you wield a brass shovel that can be thrown at enemies from a distance. The whip has been replaced by a mace ball and chain. The knife remains the same, but instead of dynamite, you will find devastating grenades. There are also a few ordinary objects that can be used as projectiles to hurl at your adversary. Look for Crates, Logs, and Steel Balls to do massive damage from a safe distance.
Make your way through the minions of the Black Warrior gang through four fantastic levels. The enemies for the most part are the same as the first, except for the Bosses. Fight your way through the Heliport to defeat the masked Boss Burnov at its end. The second stage is a Lumber Storehouse, topped by the shoulder-tackling Abore. Following the Lumber Yard is the Cornfield, where Chin Taimai will batter you with his dual Kali Sticks. In the fourth and final level you're faced with the machine gun toting Black Warrior Boss, Willy, followed by a super secret surprise villain. The Dopplegängers, are evil look-alikes of Billy and Jimmy with the ability to shoot fireballs and superior interior fighting skills. Beat them, and reign supreme as Double Dragons.
