Before the “Rock’em Sock’em” world of incredible 3-D Graphics, lightening speed effects, intricately designed, monstrous, brain-eating life-form, and extensively illustrious cut-scenes… There was the basic 2-D Animation of DUKE NUKEM. If you want the original pc/console game charm without all the hassle of “HP” and 15-HR CUT SCENES THAT GET YOU NOWHERE, then you have come to the right place! “Duke Nukem: Waiting for Forever” is definitely the game for you… Don’t believe me? Read on!!!
So, everyone remembers Duke Nukem, right?: the badass renegade hero whose prime existence is for one reason: To blow shit to bits! Well, he makes his return (Not in the original platform, but with a charming look nonetheless.
)
This is one game that’s definitely made for the DN Fanbase. So, check it: Duke Nukem: Waiting for Forever opens on the set of “The Dr. Phil Show” (of all places) while the infamous hero is in the midst of an interview (Yes, I know. Dr. Phil?? But, please keep reading. I promise it gets better). Just as the interview is getting interesting, some soldiers from "The Crusade of Eternity" decide to make an appearance in a ploy to pretty much steal free air time from Duke. Before you know it, there’s a great battle between the opposing forces, starting this game off humorously and, of course, with action that only Duke can bring (Told you it gets better). At this point, I’d like to welcome you
to the plot of the game. From here on out, you’ll encounter several different missions where you basically blast, explodes, and disintegrate your way through “Eternity” soldiers as well as their mechanical allies
Let‘s see….covered the plot….OK!!SO… Controls are basic: Heard of Right, Left, Up, and Down?? Great! Then you’ll be right at home performing basic platformer. Let’s see: you can run, jump, duck, dodge, and… (drum roll, please.) even walk!! Of course, this game ain’t about the movement. It’s all about the use of weapons. Wanna keep a good eye on your target? We got you covered. You can aim with the mouse the entire time…. Awesome in my opinion being that you’ll spend a good amount of time concentrating on your footwork… You’ll need it.
The enemies are pretty smart this time around. Don’t believe me? Just play the game and you’ll see them react to your movements! That’s right! They duck and dodge, jump around, and if you’re not careful, they’ll make Nukem Mush out of you. But don’t fret! As long as you master your weapons multiple firing features, you should have nothing to worry about. Don’t like a weapon for something? No problem! Throw away the ones you don't want and keep the others in one of your four weapon slots.
Another thing I liked, personally, is that in many of the different battle zones, you can ride in some of the unoccupied equipment. We’re talking tanks, a walker, and a laser-equipped jet fighter. Gather enough points and you get the chance to visit levels that don’t appear until later in the game. I feel that it makes the game a lot more enjoyable to actually have foes that might be a challenge. On a scale of one to ten… I give it an….ah… just play the game and see for yourself!!
