Could there be a better way to waste your day other than hacking your way through bad guy after bad guy to fight the final bosses and win the Golden Axe? I think not!
This game is highly addictive and was one of those Arcade classics from a time in the 80's when beat-em-up scrolling games such as Final Fight, Double Dragon and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were the norm. This game still captures those elements as you have a limited number of lifes, even though you can countinue on once all 3 goes are used up (the point where more money would usually be inserted) you cannot do this throughout the entire game, so it is not a easy walk-through.

The PC version
of the game clicks over so fast that this version (along with the limited lifes) can be quite difficult to complete. Added to this speed of the game difficulty is the fact that to beat the game you must kill everything in your path from start to finish. So even if you make it to the very end of the game with a small amount of life left and then die, you will unfortunately have to begin the entire process again, at which point the game either becomes mind-numbling easy or highly addictive.
Depending on the kind of gamer you are this one is not for everyone. The graphics, sound and simple transfer of animations to the PC screen will at least keep you happy to play this game once or twice every now and then. But as for being any better than the original arcade classic, this is not the case. Unless you have a gamepad or joystick the use of the keyboard to fight the baddies is your only option. This can add to the discomfort of the game when you find yourself dying at points in the game just near the end. You may find yourself throwing a keyboard ot two at this point.
So I recommend giving it a look but not pinning your hopes on it as a replacement for the original arcade version, which has better transfers on the sega mega-drive or genesis, partly due to the use of a gamepad and also a slower processor speed at which to follow the game. If you want to beat this version the best way is to jump on one of the many wild animals on which the bad guys ride and use it to attack. Stay on it as long as you can and you'll get much further in the game. Also chase down those little elves with these bags of magic and food as fast as you can!
