Heretic is a popular shareware released in the 90s. It is incredibly well-made that it could have been released as a stand-alone game for sale and it surely would’ve achieved some sort of commercial success. And true enough when it was reworked for retail after its initial release it did become mildly popular. As the new game Heretic Shadow of the Serpent Riders, the game later became part of the popular Hexen series of games.
Heretic is a first person shooters game that is similar to DOOM in terms of the game engine.
The storyline and the features of the Heretic game were largely unique though and there were many added features including the ability of the main character to look up and down. The game has five scenarios that the player can choose from and the game can be played by up to four players.
The graphics of the game was well-made and it really brought you into a magical land. The characters in the game including the beasts were very detailed and added to the richness of the game graphic-wise. The view would get pixilated during close combat but this flaw is common in first person shooter games. The music of the game is also well-made and definitely completes the fantasy atmosphere of the game. The controls are
pretty easy to learn and manage and they are completely intuitive so you shouldn’t worry about not having the manual for this game.
In the game three Serpent Riders has taken over the world. They control over the Kingdoms and everyone has to follow what the three Serpent Riders want. The group of elves of Sidhe is the only creatures that do not follow the three Serpent Riders. These elves do not follow the religion of the Serpent Riders and are therefore called Heretics. The Heretics and the Serpent then engage in war and the elders of the Sidhe were able to eradicate the armies that were approaching to defeat them but in the process destroy themselves also. Because the Sidhe no longer have leaders they decided to just scatter to the different kingdoms. This is where you come into the picture, as a lone hero and bravest among the elves of Sidhe, you must stand against one of the weakest Serpent Riders and find a way to destroy him.
The game features many interesting weapons and the game presents many challenges that really keep gamers excited.
This game is fun because of the battles and the high level of adventure that players will become engaged in.
