Incoming, a game from Rage software, was a surprise for me.
The game is a versatile one: you get multi-player, and a varied single-player campaign.
The graphics were extremely well made for its time, so I was not expecting to be able to play the game with good graphics, yet, despite a relatively low-range PC, I could still play the game with little slowdown.
The single-player campaign has you defending a lot of time, which can get very dull, but the scenery more than makes up for it.

The single-player campaign has you defending a lot of time, which can get very dull, but the scenery more than makes up for it. Also, the fact that the game has a section on offense was a shock: any other game at the time normally ends after about thirty-odd defense missions like so:
"And so, with Earth saved by (faction name here) the assault
on the (enemy name here) could begin." This was a large selling point for me.
The only REALLY stupid section of the game is the strategy section. These are rare, but nearly impossible, as you CANNOT order your own ship to attack: you are just an object. This was clearly a pathetic attempt at a strategy section, and should not have made it into the game. However, nobody is perfect, so the same can always be said for games. This was clearly an attempt to copy an earlier game, Urban Assault, which had a perfect balance of the two.
The one challenge mode I can remember was a survival mode, where you would try to last as long as possible.
The multi-player was a little unstable, but, thankfully it was only the connection speed. As I did not enjoy on-line gaming at the time a lot, this was of little concern. I would recommend a LAN game with a brother/friend/cousin, etc. The one little problem is the lack of ground vehicles, but these were extremely hard to program at the time, so this can be forgiven, and also, you would be annihilated by the opposing aerial forces.
Incoming is an enjoyable game, with a lot of replay ability. If the multiplayer was a bit better at the time I would never had sold this game, but the lust for playing this game was revived after playing the game at a friend’s house, online, with a good internet connection.
A word of advice: constant playing makes a game boring. Only play the game 3-4 times a week, and remember never to remove this game, because you will want to play it once in a while, on a rainy weekend.
