This is one of the first, if the thee first, computer game that I ever played. Well, Into The Eagle's Nest and Oregon Trail. Although I never played this game in color, just with all the characters, walls, etc. being green, on an old computer screen. That doesn't mean that your not going to get sucked into this game as soon as you open it. Into The Eagle's Nest is Pandora's first release, with hints of the Gauntlet style game play.
Into The Eagle's Nest combines eight levels with limited ammo, and plenty of guards, turning it into a quite difficult game to play.
Based in a World War 2 era, the premise is that Nazi troop numbers have been multiplying in an area that previously was considered unimportant. Three of your own spies had been sent it, but beside their being the best, they were caught by the enemy Nazi's, and guess who's sent in to bring them back. You bust in through the Castle door with only 99 rounds of ammo, so you have to be conservative with the way that you use it. Although you can find ammo plots quite often, there's no opportunities to go Scarface on anyone. You also have to protect yourself, for after fifty hits you'll be dead and so will the three allied soldiers that you were sent to
save. So watch the guards and use the hiding places, and distance to your advantage. With eight, quite long, levels to complete you always have to keep in mind that you have to make it back out, and with three others, as well. Making your way around the commander headquarters you will be picking up keys needed to open doors.
Ammo is also spread around along with some valuables, including paintings that need to be collected. Sometimes there hidden in crates that need to be shot open, you have to try to save as much of the art as you possibly can. Another main item to pick up is explosives, you need to make sure that you collect them and do not destroy them for they will be needed upon your dramatic exit of the exploding Castle. There's detonators on every floor and once you've hit them all you have to hurry yourself, and your buddies out before the whole place goes up.
All in all Into The Eagle's Nest is a challenging game that doesn't lose any of it's difficulty with age. With game play that is reminiscent of Gauntlet, and Castle Wolfenstein you will not be disappointed with this download.
