Invasion of the Mutant Space Bats of Doom is a video game set in space that is about, basically, killing as many space bats (of doom) as possible. There are total of 66 stages spaced out into three levels. Every three stages are meant for destroying one main type of space bat (of doom) that pose various challenges. After you kill a certain number of space bats (of doom), you receive a prize of sorts-a purple gem (once you get six you get an extra life), a green gem (these speed up your shots), a red gem (which lets you shoot out more missiles in one shot), or, finally, a whitish-silver gem (which gives you a "time warp"; in other words, it slows down your opposition).
Every so often during the game, you get to "take a break", if you will.
It's an orb game that consists of four horizontal bars of different colours- red, green, blue, and purple. The object of this game is to shoot as many coloured orbs as possible (as long as they're in their colour-matching bars when you shoot them). At the end, it shows how many of each orb you shot while it was in its bar. If you got a perfect score for one colour, you get that colour gem. It may seem simple, but it can get quite difficult as you progress in the game.
If I had to compare it to another game, I think I would say it is most
similar to Galaxian, when it comes to the overall object of the game. In both, you are represented as a lone starship. Also, in both games, there are different types of the thing you're shooting at- in Invasion of the Mutant Space Bats of Doom's case, they're space bats (of doom), and in Galaxian's case, they're just other starships. Plus, after you kill a certain number of your opponents, you ascend to the next level (or stage).
The first time I played this game, I was probably about seven or eight years of age. Back then, Invasion of the Mutant Space Bats of Doom was probably my favourite PC game, for two main reasons: it was really fun, and it was easy to understand. Now, seven years later, I still love it! One very positive factor of this game is that it can be appealing to all ages. A game doesn't have to be all modern and high-tech to be entertaining. It just has to be easy to understand, and fun!
