Jet Set Willy is a platform game set in the Mansion of the main character "Miner Willy"
Miner Willy's Mansion consists of 64 rooms which contain various items from a rather messy party.
Miner Willy lives under the thumb of his wife Maria who is making him clean up the mess before allowing him to go to bed. The games room layout allows you to explore the mansion with relative freedom, and a lot of items are fairly straight forward to collect. Some items however are quite difficult to acquire and must be approached in a certain order and by traveling the correct way around the mansion in order to get to the correct entry point for the room.
The object of the game is to collect all the items around the house and get to the Master Bedroom before midnight. You have numerous lives, but they are easily lost. There are many hazards along the way to hinder your progress. These include numerous characters that you must avoid contact with, other items such as conveyor belts, ropes need to be mastered. Some rooms can only be completed after considerable trial and error to discover the required technique and timing.
This version is a PC remake of the original game that was written as a sequel to Manic Miner for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. There is a great deal of Nostalgia over this game. It is one of the most famous home computer
games of all time. There are many fan websites and it has been ported to many platforms (The PC is the latest incarnation and definitely does the game justice).
The game is quite challenging, but is a simple 80's style platform game. Control consists of left, right & jump, very simple and instantly playable. It is fun exploring the rooms of house (reasonably easy). Collecting all the items and completing the game however is quite challenging, but not impossible. This game is ideal for nostalgic players or people who don't have hours to spend in front of the PC playing today’s epic style first person shooters. You can pick it up and play it, and once mastered it can be completed in an hour.
Overall, this game is a must have for anyone who remembers the nostalgic 8-bit home computer era. It is a beautifully written game that does justice to the original 8 bit versions. It is fun to play, and the music is very atmospheric.
