Game Review 1 (written by Shrimper_gurl31) Added on: 01/10/2007
This is one of my all time favourite arcade games. We got our first computer in when I was eight. It was a Gateway and in the games package that came with it, was Jezzball. I would sit at the computer and see how small of a box I could make around a single bouncing ball. For those of you who do not know the premise of the game it is a simple game that is played as follows.
You begin the game with a designated number of lives, if memory serves me right it is around 3 lives.
The object of the game is very easy to understand, get the balls into small spaces. These spaces need to be approximately 30% of the total area that you began with. In order to accomplish that task, with your mouse, you click on the playing field to send bars in either direction. When those bars hit the sides, they form a solid line, creating a barrier that the ball will bounce off of. You can send the bars either horizontally or vertically, you right click to change the direction of the bars.
The key to the game in my personal opinion is to separate the individual balls as much as possible. It is much easier to create small spaces around a single ball

as apposed to multiple balls because the timing is extremely difficult. Another trick is to purposely allow one side of your bar to be hit while the other side forms a barrier; it makes it easier to trap balls. I think there are like fifty levels or something but I do not remember ever getting past like the fifth level because by that time there were so many balls that it was nearly impossible to time it correctly. It was always fun to try to see if I could get one all the way across on those tougher levels though.
For those of you looking for other great logic games similar to Jezzball, I would definitely recommend Jewel Chase. It also come in that game package and I loved trying to too collect as many jewels as possible and still beat the little flashing guy to the end. Either one of these two games would be a joy to play at any given time, the uncertainty of how the ball is going to bounce or if you can beat the guy to the end never dulls, even after you have played it a hundred times.

Game Review 2 (written by Vervius) Added on: 11/15/2006
Jezzball is your average game of the idiotic addiction that comes from puzzle making. The erratic bouncing, non-constant speeds, and the need to complete that which you have started ends up being hours of fun. Or at least some time to cool down for the hectic workplace or mind numbing effects of homework and studying.
The first time I played this silly little game was years ago in a Mac computer lab in elementary school. It was one of the few programs acceptable for the learning/conservative environment of a public school. Also it was most likely that the teachers didn't know how to get them off of the computers and disks. It was a constant battle to see who would get the top score and even went so far as to keep track on a chalk board that only the teacher could change. It was a level of good natured silliness that still brings a smile to my face in the late-evening and all night study sessions of college.
But the ridiculous nature of the game doesn't take away from its addictive and challenging aspects. It may only be a touch above in complexity as pong or frogger, but the simplicity makes for a perfectly droppable and on/off again play style that would fit anyone's schedule. Since anyone can play it, it also makes for a fun time-killer between any group of friends, especially these days. You can challenge people to screen cap their own high scores and to make a championship gaming idea just like the good old days that I remember.
Jezzball is a fun and simple game that anyone could play. Now it's used as a way to determine who does what in certain situations but can be the perfect time killer if you're looking for one. Load it up on your computer while you wait at the airport or taking a road trip. (If you're not driving of course!) You will probably run into a number of people that recognize it and give you a "Oh wow, I remember that game!" Or something similar.
An ice-breaker, a social game, and an icon in the beginning of the computer gaming age. It's style was adapted in later puzzle games and the personal history of many people looking for a little nostalgia during those break times at the office, between classes, or during the drive-time commute.
