Kingpin: Life of Crime

Genre: Arcade    |     Year: 1999    |     Publisher: Interplay Entertainment Corp    |     Developer: Xatrix Entertainment
Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 01/29/2008
Kingpin: Life of Crime is a first person shooter game. It was developed by Xatrix Entertainment and released in 1999 by Interplay. The game was released just shortly after the Columbine High School shooting and because of the game’s violent theme and concept of revenge, the game received criticisms from some camp causing retailers to drop them. The game still received critical acclaim and appreciation from gamers. It is after all a wonderful game.
The game is highly imaginative with graphics that are so amazingly well done and detailed, it’s beautiful.
It has a retro feel to it yet it features some technical innovations creating an original atmosphere for the game. There are different areas that you will go through in the game like train yards and chemical plants. All these settings are well done and get you really engaged in the game. At the very end of the game, you will have to come face to face with Kingpin and his henchmen at Radio City, the Kingpin’s headquarters.
The city is desolate and chaotic and is filled with violence and crime. At the start of the game you will find yourself wanting to take revenge after the Kingpin’s men beat you up. Nikki Blanco, one of Kingpin’s men, tells you to stay out of his

territory. After the men leave, you plot against Nikki and Kingpin and with a lead pipe go on your way.
The game also features graphic violence and the script has profanity in it. The game really stays true to its plot and gives you the real feeling of being in a crime-ridden city. The game employed intelligent game play that is realistic. The game is difficult and it will take a while before you get used to it and get the groove but it is a fantastic game that you will find yourself playing for many hours. One of the nice features of the game is how hits to different parts of the body mean different levels of damages for the player.
As you go along the game, you can also interact with other characters. You will get different reactions from the characters depending on how you interact with them. You can get valuable information or you can cause the character to get angry at you. You will not be alone in dealing with the thugs in the game, you can actually hire other characters to help you in the game. There is a shop in every chapter in the game where you can get additional weapons and other upgrades.
If you don’t mind adult content such as profanity and violence in your game, this is definitely worth a shot.

Brilliant game, loved it when i was a kid. The dialouge is AWESOME, and the game has some great violence in it aswell. It's like a more gritty and disturbing version of a gta game, but without the freeroaming aspect.

An awesome old FPS. I finished this in two sittings. Not for the kiddies, though: lots of blood, swearing, and killing. A bonus is the fact that you can hire henchmen. Lots of realism too, ie any injured party in your field of vision will leave bloody footprints etc.
