Lucky Luke is a very fun and silly cartoonish arcade game that is based on a very popular Belgian comic book series. It was published and developed by Infogrames Multimedia and saw its largest fan following on Nintendo’s Game Boy, although it did become a cult hit on the personal computer. It features a side scrolling motion and is a fully licensed title, so gamers familiar with “Lucky Luke” the comic book series can look forward to seeing all of their favorite characters present and accounted for on their computer screen.
For gamers who are unfamiliar with the Lucky Luke story but are still drawn to the game because of its fun, colorful graphic and funky animations, Lucky Luke is a lonesome cowboy. He learns via telegram correspondence that a host of notorious villains, including Billy the Kid, the Dalton Brothers, Pat Poker and Jesse James have all escaped from jail and are on the lam. Lucky Luke decides to re-capture all of the villains, spanning twelve gaming levels, and incarcerate them again, where they belong.
Lucky Luke, with the help of the player, will navigate through these levels, jumping, walking, climbing, ducking, and of course, shooting as he goes. He will collect objects and items along the way that will help further his adventures, such as sticks
of dynamite that can blow up rocks and reveal hidden paths through the levels. This creates some definite puzzle solving elements. Luke will find a red cloth that he will have to show to a charging bull, a bone for a dog, and of course, the dynamite. He can shoot at his enemies as he progresses, usually in a straight or diagonal direction. Some enemies can be eliminated with a single shot, whereas more difficult antagonists (such as unfriendly Indians or prisoners) will require multiple hits.
The levels are unique, varied, and span several classical Wild West venues. For example, there will be towns, saloons, jails, ranches, the lone prairie, Indian villages, and the Cheyenne Mountains. There are bosses at the end of each level, with the Dalton brothers residing at the end of the final level.
Lucky Luke is filled with humor, silliness and some very vivid, and colorful graphics. It is the classic cartoon, featuring an even more classic cowboy theme. Users will love this game and will fall in love with Lucky Luke, if they do not already know him from his comic book heroics.
