Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake

Genre: Arcade    |     Year: 1990    |     Publisher: Konami    |     Developer: Konami
Game Review (written by Vgy45) Added on: 01/16/2007
This is the second instalment of Hideo Kojima's beloved Metal Gear saga, it came out for the MSX which was only released in Japan and Europe (I believe) and the only hope of you being able to play this game is with an MSX emulator. Anyways, after Snake took care of the Outer Heaven affair, Big Boss decided he wanted to build a military nation called Zanzibar Land. Of course, Solid Snake was sent in to stop him.
Story: 9/10
This game has a great story for a game that was made in the 80s.
The world is in an energy crisis until a Doctor name Kio Marv creates a substance called OILIX, a new form of energy...then Dr. Marv gets kidnapped, his location is Zanzibar Land. You are Solid Snake, elite member of FOXHOUND. You're sent to Zanzibar Land to rescue Dr. Marv.
I won't explain anymore as I would have to tell spoilers. You eventually have to face-off with Metal Gear and Big Boss again, though.
Graphics: 6/10
The graphics in this game I'm sure at the time, were great. Snake wears a little green suit and guards wear brown suits while carrying guns. In the Codec scenes, you see portraits of the characters, most of them look ridiculous though...especially Snake.
Music/Sound: 10/10
The music in this game owns.

The music quality is a little bit above NES quality, but the tunes are so catchy that it's great. You'll even hear the VR training theme from the GBC Metal Gear Solid in this game. The sound is okay, but kinda annoying at times, gunshots really sound dull in this game, as does punching a wall.
Gameplay: 10/10
The heart of the game lies in the gameplay, you'll be so addicted to this game and is a great alternative if you've just recently been playing MGS or MGS2. You sneak around with Snake while stealthily jumping out at guards and punching their lights out, you hide behind walls, in trucks and hiding under small openings in walls. The guards have a 45 degree vision, so they'll see you if you aren't careful, and if they do see you...you're gonna have to start killing guards while you try to find a spot to hide. You also radar, the little white dots are guards and the little red dot is you. Simply put...this game is fun.
Overall: 10/10
This game is possibly the best Metal Gear game (although maybe not as good as MGS). You'll have a few hours of fun and you'll get to play as Snake in his days with FOXHOUND. Also...rumor has it that Konami might re-make this game with the MGS engine, let’s hope that happens. Overall, try and find this game.

I have played the game and it's a real adventures game to me. The programmers are so much genious and this game may be the greatest of my time. Man, it's a real legend.

This game series is even better than Zelda, for sure! Of course, after the PSX version, has great graphics.
