Game Review 1 (written by Michelle) Added on: 01/02/2008
Want to play one of the best 2-D fighter arcade video games out there? If yes, then MindArms needs to be added to your gaming library.
MindArms has a fun and easy to learn fighting engine, so you don’t have to be a veteran gamer of this genre to grasp the fighting concepts. Special moves aren’t complicated in this game as they are in Street Fighter, a similar game. In MindArms, all you have to do to perform a special attack is press a couple of keys in order.
Yet, there is a training option that can help you out. Don’t think that because the controls are easy to master that the game is easy to beat. The game’s AI (Artificial Intelligence) is quite aggressive, more so than many other fighting games.
You have six main characters to pick from, with each one having unique and interesting moves: Chain (a male with good fighting skills, including much knowledge of the martial arts), Chako (a female who has awesome abilities using lightning), Kanna (a female who fights with a light saber), Takaya (a male who performs special moves on a skateboard), Eigen (a male sensei—a teacher in the martial arts), and Serto (a male with great fighting skills, such as lightning and being

able to move at the speed of light). Those six characters are all available from the beginning of the game. There are four other characters that you are able to unlock as you go along in the game. Some games give you a bar indicating how much health is remaining for your character, but you aren’t quite sure how much you have left. MindArms gives you the exact percentage of health that you have left.
The graphics in MindArms are quite good for its time. Even with being in 2-D, the characters’ animations are smooth. Other games of this genre that also use the “Fighter Maker” program by ASCII, look quite similar to each other, with not much distinction in setup and gameplay. Yet, this game stands out with unique background scenery and attack effects. The characters are done in Japanese anime style. The sounds of the game are par for the course with other fighting games, yet the music is actually quite better. MindArms accomplishes something that so many games can’t…sounds and music that aren’t so annoying.
I suggest you give this game a try if you enjoy fighting games, especially in Japanese anime style. Go ahead and download it to really see if it really is one of the best fighting games around.

Game Review 2 (written by Darth_stigma) Added on: 07/29/2007
Mind Arms was a game that sat in the corner of a pizza parlor near my house. It wasn't my favorite game, but somehow, I couldn't leave without popping a few quarters into the machine and playing.
The unique concept of this game also hooked me, the idea of fighting with your thoughts, feelings, and emotions (which would then translate into physical actions). And while the character models were a little on the half-cooked side, it didn't matter, because half the time your character is wrapped in a swirling vortex of special effects.
Now, let’s talk about sound. The soundtrack was a generic. The voice acting was also very generic, if any at all. Apart from that occasional "HA!" or "TAKE THAT!" that accompanied your various attacks, there wasn't much to go on.
The selection of characters was good, for the most part, the roster filled with little anime characters. The classic "super attacks" that became available to you once your SKILL meter read fully charged varied among characters, and the different fighting styles of those characters at least gave you a reason to try new ones out, but for the most part, after playing this game for some time, you eventually build a preference to a single character, something that will happen with many games you play.
All in all, nice game. Worth a try.
