I love this game. I’ve been searching for it for so long, and finally I’ve found it. I first played it from a CD-ROM my dad bought, called Ultimate Windows Collection. This CD had hundreds of games on it, along with other things like sound effects. We lost that CD, and have been searching for it ever since. Monument of Mars was one of my favorite games on this CD. I played it countless times, and so, as you can imagine, I am so excited to have found it again.
The game is played from a third person’s perspective, and is 2D, also with each entire level fitting on one screen, helping with judgment of where to go, and what is involved in the levels. Your character is a small red astronaut, who moves around at your control. You are on the planet Mars, and are on a mission that has failed before. You can jump and shoot, although he has limited bullets, which can be found in most levels.
The levels begin very simple, and get harder as you progress through the game, like most games. The first few levels require you only to move through a particular side of the screen to enter the next level, however following levels require an access
card to open a door, which you must find in that level. There are 20 levels all together.
There are different kinds of obstacles to avoid in the levels, such as monsters, force fields, drips, and places you can get trapped in!! But don’t worry… you have unlimited lives, and if you die you just restart the level.
There are also many things that can help you, such as bullets, switches, levers, buttons, elevators, cards, arrows, computers, and more.
The aim of the game is to finish all 20 levels, and get off the planet Mars.
This game is not too difficult, as I first finished it when I was quite young, maybe 10 or so. If you want a game with good graphics, this is probably not for you, as it is simply constructed, and does not have much to it in that way.
I think this is a great game to play to get started in the gaming world, as it begins at simple, and ends a little bit harder, but nothing impossible or really hard.
I recommend you download this game, even if only to give yourself a few hours of enjoyment.
