Wow, I didn't realize that they remade this classic in 1995. Must have been napping.
To summarize, for those plebs who possibly never heard of Pacman, probably because they lived under a rock, it was essentially one of the games that made gaming addictive. The other was probably Space Invaders.
Although, the graphics don't really differ much from the original, the gameplay is still essentially quite entertaining. However, although this player was operating this game under DOS Box, it's a little too fast for his liking in comparison to the original.

But this may probably be due to the hardware differences from when this game was released to the current machines of today. The best option is running a mo'slo
utility to get the game to run at 20% or less. Of course, it may simply be that my poor reflexes are not what they use to be in navigating Mr PacMan about. There is a FAST PAC in the option, but perhaps someone should consider a patch to SLOW PAC instead.
The sound is nothing spectacular, but keeps true to the original pacman formula, and likewise with the graphics as mentioned earlier. Actually, to be honest, not much has changed since the original. You go about a screen trying to eat all the dots, while avoiding ghosts/monsters. Eat a big dot and u get to chase and try eat the ghosts/monsters instead of them chasing you. You win each level when u cleared the dots. Earn extra points by eating various fruits that crop up during gameplay.
It's really hard to be critical about such a classic, even if this was a remake. Yes, the game developers didn't really add anything to the original in terms of graphics or sound, but in all honesty, it's not broken, don't fix it. While this game may not provide the hours/days of entertainment like some RPG sagas that are out in the market today, it will provide brief moments of entertainment and let many gamers take a step back into the past and see where and how games were made in those days when hardware was quite restrictive. This game was probably ideally built for a 150-200MHz machine.
Anyways, in conclusion for this review. This classis is definitely a worthwhile download, and will provide many of the older gamers a nostalgic experience, and hopefully will demonstrate to the younger gamers that fancy high powered graphics, million dollar promotions and Grammy winning soundtracks aren't really needed in any game, so long as the gameplay is solid and fun. After all, the whole purpose of gaming is fun.
