Pea Shootin' Pete is a very fun shareware arcade game that looks very simple, but will end up growing on you after repeated play. The idea is very straightforward: you are armed only with a small, little blowgun, and to win, you need to shoot (or blow, to be more exact) peas vertically at multi colour balloons that tend to bounce around and around the screen on each and every level. When they are popped, each of the balloons will split into two smaller balloons, so you then you have to pop them again (and again and again) until they end up being small enough - then they will eventually disappear.

When they are popped, each of the balloons will split into two smaller balloons, so you then you have to pop them again (and again and again) until they end up being small enough - then they will eventually disappear. When you have popped them all repeatedly, they will get smaller and smaller
and then you can go to the next level - but only once all the balloons have been popped into smaller and smaller balloons, then disappear.
The game is not as easy as it sounds. First, you have to avoid being hit by balloons (otherwise you die), and the smaller ones are very hard to avoid because you can not move while you shoot - instead, you must stand still first before you can shoot the pea. Fortunately, for the player, there are very many power-ups that seem to end up falling all over the place at random from the balloons that you pop, including an item that slows down all of the balloons, freezes all of them, or gives you a few extra lives.
The graphics are old school and are not, by any means, spectacular, but it's the addictive game-play that will keep you glued to the screen for hours on. Please don't be fooled by the game's seemingly simple very premise -- after all, Pea Shooting Pete has all of the charm of coin operated games that have sucked countless quarters from you, me, our friends - in fact, all of us when we were growing up.
This game is recommended and will take you back to the "good old days" when games were simpler (or so they seemed), but highly addictive. If you are an old school gamer or video game player, I think you will like this. You may end up playing over and over though. If you wind up being addicted to this game, don't say I didn't warn you because we both know that I did!
