Pit-Fighter was originally an Atari Arcade game, which was released on several formats. It is based on a fictional underground fighting circuit where your aim is to become the champion by beating The Ultimate Warrior (or Masked Warrior dependant on which version of the game you play) by earning the right to fight by defeating lower ranking contenders.
This game was also one of the first ever to impose the real image on a fighter into a game using the blue screen technique, which was famously used with Mortal Kombat.
This give the game a more realistic look but as it was an early attempt it looks like what I would sum up the whole game to be, poor.
As the player you are able to choose from three characters that are known as Buzz who is an Ex Pro Wrestler, TY who is a champion kick boxer and Kato who is an expert is Karate. Each character has their own special array of moves based on their fighting background. Buzz’s moves include a bodyslam, head butt and piledriver, TY’s moves are the spinkick, the flying kick and roundhouse whilst Kato’s moves include a combo punch, flipkick and backhand. The game can be played by up to 3 players who initially help each other progress until
they fight each other to see who has earn’t the right to face the Ultimate Warrior. Play progresses through the lower ranks of Pit-Fighter defeating opponents and earning money. After a victory your character is shown on a forklift truck and will rise in accordance to how well he did in the previous fight.
Every so often, usually after the third fight you will be pitted in a grudge match again your fellow player opponents, this is simply a bonus round and you won’t occur a game over by losing the best of three falls format. The winner gets a points (prize purse) bonus whilst the loser gets nothing. During fights there are several items scattered around the arena such as bottles, bar stools, knifes, barrels, etc. These can be used to help you beat your opponents as there are no rules but to knock out your opponent. In the barrels there can be power ups which will allow you to inflict twice the damage you would normally achieve. Round the outside of the arena is a crowd who if you get to close to or are thrown into will attack you, the crowd is also known to throw additional weapons in to the arena.
