I remember going to the movie theaters only to play this game as a child. It's been years since I played it so I'll put down the best of what I can remember.
You can choose to play as a group of several different monsters. A large group of these monsters are dinosaurs, with T-Rex, a larger version of a velociraptor, a creature with a long neck (forgot what it was called) that you can use to attack from a larger distance, and one more I can't remember.

There are also two apes you can play as, a larger more powerful ape that is red I believe and the smaller faster one.
This plays like a standard arcade fighting game with a weak and strong punch attack,
a weak and a strong kick attack, and a block maneuver. Like Mortal Kombat however there are finishing moves (in this game called Domination moves) they require a button combination and what they do changes from creature to creature. One of the creatures I believe sends a fireball at his opponent which burns off his flesh and sends his bones tumbling to the ground.
While the music doesn’t fit the mood of the game perfectly, there are several other effects to listen to, such as the different grunts and growls of your characters as you fight, and the screams of the innocent bystanders if you pick them up and eat them or just carelessly step on them.
While this isn't the best looking arcade game of this time, it definitely has some great detail drawn into it. Each character has their own different style drawn into them, and you can really see all of the differences between these characters. Also, the backgrounds are very interesting and always full of life. Normally in the background there is a group of people cheering on their favorite monster, most of which you can eat. Also, there aren't a ton of special effects in this game, but the ones that are there are very slick. All of the fireballs shot from the mouth of one creature to the bloody chunks of flesh being ripped from the creatures bodies as you fight to the death with each other are drawn in great detail and really add to the flair of this game.
In all Primal Rage is a very fun arcade game, that will most likely suck you in for hours with its surreal atmosphere and fun fighting system.
