Game Review 1 (written by Chrissi) Added on: 11/14/2007
The main goal of the game is to capture your opponent’s flag and return it to your base without dying.
You have four vehicles that you are able to select from, each one being suitable for a certain kind of mission. Each vehicle is capable of only carrying a certain amount of fuel and ammo, which means you, will have to locate ammo tents and fuel depots to fill up. The four vehicles that you have to select from are the helicopter, the armoured support vehicle, the tank, and the jeep.

The helicopter is more suitable for the recon missions, because it has the ability to fly over different kinds of terrains. The armoured support vehicle does have the strongest armour and is capable of laying mines. The only downside is that it is slower than the tank making it easier to defeat if properly targeted. The tank does have faster movement and firing power than the ASV, but it does have less armour and the firepower is definitely a lot weaker. The jeeps only firepower would happen to be a grenade; it is the fastest vehicle of the game and only vehicle able to carry the flag. Each vehicle has its own up and down sides to it, but depending on what

you want to do each vehicle comes in handy in its own way.
The music in this game is great. Depending on the vehicle that you are using the music will change. When you are using the jeep you will hear ‘Flight of the Bumblebee’, ‘Holst’s Mars’ in the tank or ‘William Tell Overture’ when holding the flag. When you are using the helicopter you’ll be listening to ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ and when you are in the ASV you’ll hear ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’. With each vehicle having its own song, it gives the game a more personal characteristic when you play.
With the game being dedicated to the two players split screen games, there is a lack of real opponents to go against. There are rotating missile turrets and drone helicopters that are a regular threat in single player mode, but in the multiplayer there is lack of. There are infantry troops that are capable of throwing grenades, but they only appear when you hit a building.
At the beginning of each scenario you will begin with three of each vehicle that you can use at your own disposal. You will want to use the vehicles to destroy the opponent’s buildings in search of the flag, but remember only the jeep is capable of retrieving the flag. You are also only able to use one vehicle at a time, which can some times before frustrating.
If you enjoy head to head capture the flag with a little added destruction you will want to play this game. Return Fire is not too difficult and quite enjoyable for the average player. With the selection of vehicles and the great music this game is definitely a keeper.

Game Review 2 (written by Monroebball2002) Added on: 03/28/2007
This game came out in 1996 for playstation, pc, and 3do. The game is basically a vehicle shooter game which is shot from what is called an isometric projection, basically a 3d screen put into 2 dimensions.
The concept is similar to capture the flag with enemy vehicles preventing you from your objective. There are four types of vehicles to choose from with different advantages and disadvantages. There is a helicopter which is good for scouting and destroying turrets. A heavily armed vehicle (forgot its name) which is slow and less agile but is stronger and can do some damage, then there is the tank which is similar the armored vehicle but has less armor, is faster, and has a turret that can rotate all the way around, and finally there is the jeep which is the fastest and can carry the flag.
The enemies in this game are very mechanical and lack the AI of later games similar to this like metal gear solid. This game is very low tech and early generation as far as a playstation game. There are nine levels to it. There is also a 2 player mode where it is split screen like other vehicle shooters. There is also a prequel and a sequel to this game. The prequel was fire power which came out in 1987 and the sequel was return fire 2 which came out in 1998. This game is best known on the short-lived 3do game platform.
