From the title alone, the game Return of the Mutant Space Bats Doom has an 80s feel to it. And everything 80s is back. Although this game was released in 1995, it still gives you the fun 80s vibe. It’s completely retro, highly entertaining and totally addicting which how most classic 90s games are.
The Return of the Mutant Space Bats of Doom, released by Pop Software, is the sequel of the Invasion of the Mutant Space Bats of Doom. The graphics of the game serves it purpose with colorful backgrounds and good animation.
Even the sound fits the game well and you get the beat of the game with the sound effects. It’s very easy to control with the mouse and will provide you with hours of gaming fun. It works on any modern PC and it’s something you can keep on your hard drive and keep coming back to.
The appeal of the game lies in its simplicity. It’s the kind of game that meets the gamers’ expectations. The game play is tight, the graphics are effective and the game is not schizophrenic unlike other games try to attract different types of gamer by attacking different genres. It’s a standard shooters game that is simple but totally addicting. It provides gamers enough challenges but it’s not too
difficult that you can’t advance to the next levels.
In the game, the mutant space bats of doom invade the earth and it’s up to you to save the planet. During the course of you collect different gems that give you that improve your firepower, add to your life energy or slow down the enemy. Just like the game Galaga, the gems appear after you kill several bats. The bats have attack patterns that you can learn to help you get through the game. In the bonus level, you can collect gems that will increase your power. Just hold down on the fire button to effectively fire at the bats.
The game has many challenging levels that will allow you to just keep you going and going. It’s actually pretty surprising this game is not as popular as the other shooters game and that Pop Software did not reach greater heights with the game. This game is high up on my list in the shooters genre. I don’t know if I’m just being nostalgic but they don’t make shooting games the same way anymore.
