Rick Dangerous or Indian Jones in flash mode. Rick Dangerous was one of the best games I played as a kid. When I was little I used to get up (wake up) really early so that I could play Rick Dangerous (this was about 6am or sometimes earlier) on my Amiga before any of my brothers or sisters could get up and go on the computer before me. I loved sitting in the chair with anticipation whilst the computer loaded up. As a child this never happened quickly enough.
Eventually it would load up and I would start playing Rick Dangerous. Even though Rick Dangerous did not have the best screen display or graphics this game was better than the rest. To me the best thing about Rick Dangerous was the music. There was not a game like it at the time I feel that could live up to the music of Rick Dangerous. To start playing the South American level where the boulder would chase you got my excited each time I played it. Sometimes I would stop and start running just so that the boulder could catch up with me as I run for my life.
However, the best part of the game was when you killed
the enemies and they cried like a baby. I don’t know on how many occasions I laughed at that. My family couldn’t see what was so funny but what did they know. I did find the fact that you could pick the dogs, bats and enemies with Rick Dangerous’ stick that he carried. On the castle level there was a section where you cold sneak up behind the dog and poke him with the stick. This made the dog jump up and run like crazy. I think that my favorite level had to be the air missile base one. This level was rock hard! As a child it was very difficult to complete. The other levels yeah sure were easy and that, but, to me when I didn’t complete it, it become my favorite level. This was because I had to play it over and over again, so I learnt to love the music, the area and the bad guys in there green suits.
To me, there was nothing wrong with this game, it was perfection. I think I was slightly disappointed when we got rid of the Amiga as I knew that I probably was never going to play Rick Dangerous again. Leap forward several years and here I am playing Rick Dangerous again, one of my most favorite games as a child.
