Sango Fighter is about what you'd expect from a beat 'em up game. It features a number of fighters from ancient Chinese history, such as the mighty Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and Xu Huang. If you've ever played the Dynasty Warriors series of games from Koei, or any of the other games they're produced in the same vein, then these names should sound familiar. Sango Fighter tracks their progress through numerous battles from the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history.
The combat system in Sango Fighter should be pretty easy to learn.
There are also a number of power ups and pickups that a player can acquire, such as swords, knives, and staffs. However, unlike most beat 'em up games, which contain a universal system of attacks for the various characters, Sango Fighter features unique moves for each fighter, ranging from Guan Yu hack-and-slash style of weapons attacks (he's one of the few characters who comes standard equipped with a weapon), to the brutal, almost wrestling style of fighting of Zhang Fei, to the rapid palm-to-fist techniques of Zhang Liao. Most characters feature similar moves, such as a punch, a kick, and a projectile attack, but for the most part, they differ.
The game features standard issue beat 'em up mission progression, where you clear a room or screen
of enemies before moving on to the next one. Other warriors are featured as bosses, although, occasionally, you fight things like Bandit Clans instead of a real warrior. The music is nice and fits the mood perfectly. Each character shares a similar storyline, although it differs in some stages, as each character features levels that are specific to them.
Overall, it's quite fun and a good bit of nostalgia for the olden days.
