The New Zealand Story

Game Review (written by Chrisgelderd) Added on: 02/21/2007
One of the things that made me curious about this game was the topical title, 'The New Zealand Story'. Little did I know that title would live over decades and still bring a smile to my face, and millions of gamers out there, today.
You play Tiki, a small yellow Kiwi with a simple mission. SAVE HIS FRIENDS! The game revolves around you playing as Tiki traveling around New Zealand (educational AND fun!) battling through various bad guys such as snails, starfish, boomerang throwing hunters and killer birds.
Your goal is to rescue an adorable Kiwi at the end of each level.
One of the memorable aspects of this game is the cuteness. Whenever Tiki completes a mission or even loses a life, his little dance and jingle of music will always make you smile ready for the next task. It's such a bright, happy and colorful game to play that you will always want to come back to it and get as far as you can with the time you have.
It's not too hard game as I played it almost a decade ago when I was 10 and the child-like approach to the game make it enjoyable to play, but also the classic elements such as the use of weaponry, music and scrolling

levels make it addictive for older gamers today. It's colorful, decorative and has a very accurate attention to detail that makes every level a joy to play.
The gameplay is simple with no real task of hitting buttons at the right time. Left, right, jump. That's it! Also, the elements in the game make it fun to play too. You start the game with a trusty bow and arrow to defeat enemies, but that can soon increase to laser guns, bombs and fireballs!
Balloons, ducks and even UFOs await you for transporting Tiki up and around the levels.
If you're a fan of TAITO and that kind of game (Arcade-based coin-ops), then you're in safe ground. It's not too hard, but more a big challenge to make your way across water, spikes and even clouds without killing yourself. I can guarantee if you fail, you will always come back for just one more go, thanks again to Tiki and his cute appeal.
This was a game brought out for the Amiga and one that I guarantee you will remember if you look at it from yester-year. Please download this game for a fun and happy time, but one that will have you awing, once again, at the whole cute appeal from Tiki and his stranded Kiwi friends.

Wow, great game. I remember when I used to play with this when I was a child, with my brother.

Yes a great game and another example of why old games are better? Anyway, glad I found this again. God knows where my original Amiga floppy discs are now.

A classic game that stands out for me from the Amiga days. The gameplay is as addictive and annoyng as the music, but you keep going back until completed.

This game was one of my favourites when I was younger, and it was probably the game that most drove me to want to design them myself! It's an awesome little adventure and, if you've never played it, you should!
