Turok is a great action game. It doesn’t have much to do with hunting dinosaurs, but this is probably for the best. The game doesn’t have much of a story except your character is trying to prevent an enemy from obtaining a weapon so powerful that he will become the ruler of the world. The story isn’t even close to the best part of the game though. The game’s action is excellent. Turok is mostly about gunning down armed henchmen, natives, and dinosaurs that look as close to real as you can get.
The game’s levels are huge and look amazing! The jungles seem real, complete with a variety of animals that you can hunt to regain health. Another good thing about Turok is the huge arsenal of weapons. There is everything between bows and arrows to rocket launchers and all of the weapons are fun to use. The sound effects in the game are good, but not the best. The jungle sounds good, but some of the weapons sound a lot weaker than they are. The enemy AI is ok at times and completely dumb at others. Some enemies see you coming and can put up a good fight, but a lot of the times you can be ten feet away
from them and they won’t even attack you. This isn’t much of a problem, due to the fact that it is a lot of fun to shoot them and watch them grab their necks to stop the bleeding and slowly fall to the ground. In case you haven’t guessed, the game is very violent and very bloody, and it may offend some people. Another thing that some people may not like is that the game is difficult. Even on the easy setting you will sometimes have a hard time getting past a certain point. A few of the best examples of the hardest parts involve jumping across almost impossible distances, which often requires perfect timing and skill. There is also a lot of key hunting in the game, which isn’t much of a problem because most of the time the keys are easy to come across because they will be in your path. This can sometimes be a problem, however, because it is easy to get lost in the games massive levels. Overall, Turok is an excellent action game that most people will enjoy greatly due to the slick graphics and game play.
I highly recommend this title to anyone interested in a 3D shooter.
