Game Review (written by Alepatrian20) Added on: 08/11/2006
I have to say, I love this game. The main focus of it is a leather clad woman in red climbing vines, but that does not deter me (and it is probably a bonus for some). The game has a great scrolling engine, no jerking or flickering. The game-play in itself is pretty simple, and very entertaining. I first got this game years back, but it still remains one of the most amusing games I have ever played. The story is a little nonsensical, but does that really matter?

The monsters are quite easy to kill, but that is made up for by the limited bars in your “life” area.

The monsters are quite easy to kill, but that is made up for by the limited bars in your “life” area. The beginning levels are very easy, you just have to figure out the

controls (ctrl, alt, and the arrow keys will do everything for you). Throughout the game, the levels do get more difficult, and timing your jumps can be a little tricky. You also want to be careful when jumping if there is a monster on the platform above, as Vinyl will take some damage for that. In the event of your being low on life, there are usually plenty of health pots (restore 1 point of health) around. Usually further into the level you will also find health jugs (restore full health) in convenient places. When running around, it is also good to remember that there are extras, or secret rooms all throughout the game. So keep a lookout for those, as they can have things beneficial to your game play. Usually you can tell the location of a secret room because there are windows with bars in the room. In the event of seeing one of these, launch yourself at it and you will probably get in. This is not always the case though, and many times this will be to no avail, and some of the angles can be on the difficult side for our pixilated heroin.

The graphics in the game are really appreciable and visually stimulating. One of the first things I noticed when playing the game was the intensity of the greens in the level I was playing. I really love the look of most of the levels. It ranges from lush jungles and forests, to dungeon like place with many things that want to bludgeon you to death (Skeletons, eyeball creatures, etc…). The only thing I can really complain about are the frequency of these spikes that come out of the ground (be careful of those) and the weapon that is a glass flask of burning oil. This weapon can only be thrown in an arc, which makes it awkward and inefficient at the best of times, avoid it if you can.

All in all, Vinyl Goddess From Mars is a game I would definitely recommend to anyone who has a few (or more) hours to kill. So download and enjoy, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
