War Gods is a very fun game especially for its time. It is a lot like mortal kombat in the sense that it is one on one fighting and each character has his/her own fatality. The fatalities can be tough to do with all the buttons you have to push, but some of them are worth it. There are great ones like when Maximus cuts the enemy in half, but there are really bad ones like when Anubis drops a sarcophagus on the opponent.

This game has some pretty decent graphics and a lot of blood which can look cheesy at times because it comes out in huge chunks. The 3D arenas and characters and arenas look good on the game.
It may take a while to learn the controls and special attacks but once you figure that out it is definitely worth it. You can do some very long, 10 hit combos but it takes a lot of memorization to do. One advantage over mortal combat is this game has 3D arenas so you can sidestep out of the way of attacks and run around the arena better.
The story of the game is something like a spaceship crashed into earth carrying orbs so some people picked them up and turned into war gods and now they fight. It sounds kind of lame but you don’t even pay attention to it when your playing. This game has 10 characters to choose from and each one has their own fighting styles and combos that differ from each other. It is a hard game to beat, sometimes you have to use the cheap combo of throwing the enemy in the air then punching them and keep doing it over and over. Beating the game isn’t very rewarding either. It is only one screen and a bunch of reading.
One thing that is good is that once you beat the game you unlock to new huge characters, Exor and Grox. As you can imagine, since they are big, they are slow but very powerful and hard to beat characters when you’re playing against your friends.
To summarize this I would say this game is best played with some friends instead of by yourself. Fans of mortal combat should really like playing this game. There are advantages and disadvantages to this game compared to mortal combat so I guess it depends on who you ask to see what game is better. This game is definitely worth a try though and it will last you quite a bit of time without getting bored.
