Sit on your chair, relax, and enjoy one of the first creations of the renowned BitMap Brothers. This is a typical shoot-them-up style game. You are trapped into a giant complex, and your goal... well... is to destroy as much as you can! You don't have to worry about turning on a switch here, or avoiding civilians: if it moves, you can destroy it, earn points and power-up your vehicle.
Unlike many other games similar to this one, back in the time in 1988, the animation, sounds and graphics were exceptional.
Although the aim of the game is not very original, the action itself is breathtaking. Moreover, they also introduced a 2 mode vehicle. Depending on the enemy type, you will have to transform yourself as a tank or a spaceship. Another interesting feature resides in the total freedom of movement: you are not stuck into a vertical or horizontal scrolling.
The game is divided into 3 stages. Each stage as 2 levels and you will have to face a new (and more powerful) big Boss at the end of every level (total of 6 bosses). The first level is not complicated at all. Just drive around, and destroy the multiple turrets with either one or two shots depending on their active defense (surrounded by
a protective dome). You will have to learn how to destroy the elevated gun turrets by using your spaceship and annihilate the ground one with your tank. At the beginning it looks like it is impossible to do, but after a few minutes of training, you will not even think anymore (it is like driving a bike for the first time!). Besides the multiple gun turrets, you will also encounter some in ground (like giant bugs) defense and in-air ships that you will have to eradicate unless you prefer to die quickly with no honor. At the end of the first level, you will meet the big boss and try to avoid any projectiles sent. The second level of stage 1 is much faster, but more challenging. You will have to stay in spaceship mode and destroy multiple turrets and invasions of alien ships. The last big boss of stage 1 is very similar to the previous one, but you will have to avoid mode energy balls and fire at him more quickly.
The other 2 stages are very similar. The colors will change from blue to green and red in the third stage. You will have to face more and more aliens with more and more changes between tank mode and ship mode, and the big boss will be harder and harder to beat. But don't worry, you are the chosen one!
This is definitely a "must try" game.
