Game Review (written by Michelle) Added on: 01/27/2008
Space Hulk is a real time first-person shooter video game. It was created in 1993 by Electronic Arts, and is a computer adaptation of the 1989 board game of the same name. The objective of the game is to destroy a ferocious race called the Genestealers.
The game received many raves for having a wonderful atmosphere. The voice acting is exceptional, enough to have the game’s voice acting ranked as one of the best gaming atmospheres ever. The graphics include dark and long corridors which give the game a claustrophic feel.

The graphics include dark and long corridors which give the game a claustrophic feel. That, along with creepy music makes playing the game very tense. The gameplay can be difficult at times, but it surely keeps you at the edge of your computer chair. And the realistic aliens and their

eerie sound effects can make you jump out of that computer chair.
You control a squad of genetically enhanced soldiers, who are set out to terminate the alien Genestealers. This evil race took over old drifting ships called Space Hulks. You can view the squad in first person through multiple camera angles, or view from overhead.
There are 50 total missions, which include the tutorials, individual missions, and full-blown campaigns. Before each mission, you are briefed on pertinent information and your objectives. You can customize your squads' weapons, which range from Lightning Claws to Assault Cannons. With each completed mission, the squad gains experience, which allows them to fight better and shoot more accurately in future missions.
Strategic play comes into effect on the Planning Screen. You use top-down maps to issue commands to your squad. On the Terminator View Screen, you can view each soldier’s first-person perspective. You directly control the soldier whose view is seen on the primary monitor. Secondary monitors show the other squad members' perspectives. You are only allowed to control their weapons fire. You can change the soldier on the primary monitor at any time. The soldiers are set to automatically fire at any enemies.
This is a real-time game, yet you can pause the game by going into “Freeze Time" where you can issue orders to your squad. When freeze-time is over, the squad carries out their orders. To make the game more realistic, there are some unexplored areas that are blacked out on your map. And any Genestealers that aren’t in the squad’s direct view are only blips on the map—but those blips can be one or a group of them.
Space Hulk is much more than your average shooter game. With its intriguing story line, nice graphics, quality voice acting, and mood-setting music, Space Hulk is well worth the download.
