Game Review 1 (written by Pumpkimber) Added on: 08/05/2006
This game should be considered a classic! When I was a kid in the early 1990s, I used to play this religiously in school learning verbs, adjectives, nouns, etc. The graphics are pretty simple and there is not much to it, but the concept is fun. You do not need great graphics to have fun playing computer games! What is great about this game was the fact that the whole game fit into one old floppy disk! Now with technology, all these games take up so much space on your computer, that you appreciate such classic games like Word Munchers because it does not take so much RAM or memory on your computer! Sometimes, less is definitely more! Seriously, this game did not even need a mouse! This just required your average keyboard, with the arrow keys and the space bar.
Ah, the nice old days.
The objective of the game is to consume all the words that apply to the specific category or criteria. Once that objective is completed, the level ends and a more advance level begin. The “troggle” munchers are a treat and the advance levels are pretty difficult because they are faster and practically all over the board. The game warns the main character when a “troggle” is coming on the board, so the main character should always be away from the edge of the board since you do not know where the ”troggle” will appear. The subplot of this game is little adventure that the main frog character I believe called “Muncher” have with the troggles. It is not that

interesting, but regardless, I think this game should still be played in grammar schools! When I was a kid, I loved playing this game along with the Oregon Trail Game.
Word Munchers is part of the Munchers series. There is also Number Munchers, which I did not find as interesting as Word Munchers. There is also Fraction Munchers, Super Number Munchers, and Super Word Munchers. Super Word Munchers is my second favorite after Word Munchers. There are very interesting points in Super Word Munchers. You can learn sport stars or U.S. Presidents or learn musical instruments or just challenging categories all around. The concept is the same as Word Munchers, but just different topics. The graphics are all pretty much the same. There really is not much to it in terms of graphics, but the game is totally worth it considering it does not even take 1MB!

Game Review 2 (written by Chadkoenig1) Added on: 07/28/2006
Super Munchers is such an incredible game! It's just like I remember it when I used to play it in elementary school. Somehow, 20 years later it's still fun.
When the Troggles appear, you can't help but quiver. It's a rip-off of Pac-Man, sure, but it’s original in its own ways and it's also a very good educational tool, used to help children learn grammar and mathematical terms as well as animals, historical figures, musical terms, bands and composers. You "munch" certain answers to the categories and have to look out for Troggles, which are alien-like monsters that come from the sides of the puzzle. You die by either touching them, them touching you, or by munching the wrong answer.
Unlike the original Number Munchers game, you munch certain words and then you don a cape and become a "Super Muncher", much like Pac- Man eats a power pellet. Also, the best part is, unlike the original, there are more than just number games. There are Animals, Famous Americans, Music, Odds & Ends and a Super Challenge! My favorite of them all is the music one. You have to munch bands of the 60's, 70's and 80's. Very fun for pop culture buffs! The classical composers’ category is difficult, especially for young children. I have been a musician for 15 years and studied music just as long and I have troubles with the composer and musical instrument categories. There are categories for "Music from the Baroque period". Some of it is tough! On Famous Americans, a strong knowledge of history is needed and I test anybody to know all of this.
It's also great when, between rounds there are little storylines between the Super Muncher and the Troggles - another feature that was inspired by Pac-Man and its subsidiaries. The further you go along on the game, the more of the story you get to see!
This game is lots of fun, I recommend it to people of all ages and it is something you will keep for your kids or when you have kids of your own. Although similar to Pac-Man, it is its own game. It's original, it's unique and above all, a LOT of fun! A great educational tool that was used in the 1980's and 1990's and honestly, was the game that everybody went to in the early days of computers. Thanks for bringing back such great memories!

I remember playing this in elementary school. I would have someone else do my homework on the bus so I would be able to snag the computer when I got to class.

A great game for teaching children to use their basic computer skills, and an excellent trivia game to increase overall comprehension of various subjects. Colorful and entertaining.

I played this game back in 1988 on an Apple computer at the public school I attended. I was addicted to it. I would stay after school to play it, -and didn't want to go home!

I used to play this game at school all the time when I was in high school. We used to get in trouble for playing in the computer lab when we were supposed to be doing research or whatnot for class.

This game is the best! It teaches you while you learn! This is a game where you get to play a little green guy on the search for information! It is a classic! Watch out for those troggles though! Seriously this game got me through my failed marriage. If I didn't have it I would have just plain lost it. Those were some dark times. She ran away with my best friend you see, but this game is great. You should download it.

I love this game. It gives my grandchildren the skills to say vowels and recognize words. It can also help rappers find words that rhyme via the little frog that eats words.

Multiprincess83 (03/12/2008)
When I was in grammar school I hated math, so my teacher started having computer days where we could play games but the catch was it had to be about math. So my friend showed me number munchers and I loved it. I started doing better in math class and enjoy math more plus then upgraded to super munchers I’m just glad that it's still around for when I have kids someday.
