The Typing of the Dead is an arcade game released in 1992. It is a first person shooter game but instead of actually shooting enemies with a gun, you use a keyboard. When the zombies appear before you there will be a box showing the text that you need to type in. Based on the popular game The House of the Dead, the player made to type in words in front of the zombies to be able to obliterate them.
At the easy stages the words you need to type in are short but as you go on farther in the game, the words become longer. Aside from being an arcade game, it also features mini-games that let you practice your typing skills so you can learn to type faster enabling you to kill monsters quicker.
A mad scientist has created an army of zombies with the intention of ruling the world. You are the only one who can stop the evil plans from becoming successful.
The game features the same monsters and creatures from The House of the Dead. The original House of the Dead was a huge success when it was released and this is also because at the time of the original’s
release it featured one of the best graphics. But because The Typing of the Dead was released several years later, the graphics were no longer the best for the time.
The story line is linear and you don’t decide where to go next. The game takes you to the different rooms where the enemies will suddenly come into your view and you have to kill them. The game has good sound and an interesting game play. It can be pretty crazy and exciting especially when there are several monsters appearing on your screen and you need to type in the phrases really fast.
There are power ups that are available for you to either give you extra life or give you other powers such as turn you into a zombie. You can also save victims that the monsters have taken hostage. At the end of each level, you need to face a boss monster.
There is a Dreamcast version of the game which allowed two players to play the game with the use of two keyboards. As for the PC version, multi-player is allowed through network.
This game gives the same level of fun and excitement as the House of The Dead and is certainly a good game to play.
