The Championship Manager game series was my second taste of Football Management following a game called 'Director' on the Commodore 64/128 in the late 80s. Championship Manager was back then, and still is to this day the most addictive game I have ever played. It is the ultimate in tactical strategy gaming, and I love it!
The thrill of being able to lure to player targets such as the ever prolific Alan Shearer to my beloved Anfield is brilliant! Being able to re-shape an under-achieving side into double and maybe triple trophy winning side is just incredible.
You can play the way you've always wanted your manager to play, calling the shots with training, wages, stadium development, etc!
It is so pleasing when you can sell off the irritating under-achieving players like Oyvind Leonhardsen at Liverpool for a fortune! Say £8 million at the time! Then you can use it to find better, more accomplished talent to score you 8 out of 10 every game!
This game is a fantastic piece of work, and leaves you 4 am in the morning wanting to play that extra few games to get your key striker back to fitness, or to get past the international fixtures, or to get through that annoying summer without a major tournament.
You always crave the next addition, wondering
what extra features have been added. Surely it is every schoolboy's dream though, being able to manage his favorite club. Awesome game.
