RedCat 2: De Ontvoering is a highly obscure title from Holland. It is a colourful, but cartoonish, two-dimensional platform game that features RedCat as the hero of the tale. The premise of this little-known Dutch game features the Princess Dana in great peril. She has been taken prisoner by a hostile gang of mice, led by an evil wizard. It is up to the hero, RedCat, to rescue her and return her safely to home.
There are eight total levels in RedCat 2, each featuring hundreds of swarming enemies for RedCat to battle.
The enemies are somewhat silly, and usually are a natural enemy to the cat, generally some type of rodents. To break up the monotony of killing mouse after mouse, the game features some silly cartoon antics. Mice will parachute onto the scene, tied onto floating balloons. RedCat, whose primary weapon is a gigantic shot gun, strikes a heroic pose as he blasts away at the oncoming rats. There are also some nicely done bomb effects. After completing all of the levels, RedCat must then battle and defeat the evil wizard as the main boss in order to save the beautiful Princess Dana.
Beyond that, there is little to detail. The backgrounds aren’t terribly inventive, and they are drab…especially in comparison to RedCat’s vivid colour. There is
very little text explaining the plot, and what is made available is in Dutch. There aren’t any secret levels or imaginative power-ups, which makes RedCat 2: De Ontvoering repetitive quickly.
Still, RedCat 2: De Ontvoering features animation and mild violence that is not too horrid for children. It is a short game and can be completed quickly, again lending to the attention span of kids, or making it a great time-waster during a lunch or coffee break.
