The Incredible Machine 3.0

Genre: Puzzle    |     Year: 1995    |     Publisher: Sierra On-Line, Inc.    |     Developer: Jeff Tunnell Productions
Game Review 1 (written by Baronvonschenks) Added on: 07/27/2006
The Incredible Machine Three is an ingenious game that uses the logic to solve puzzle in hopes to accomplish the task. The game is a quality game with crisp clear graphics, music to go along with the levels, many levels so you’re not stuck playing the same level over and over again.

The object of the game is to use the given material to accomplish a task that was given to you at the beginning of the level whether it is to knock off the cat or pop three of the four balloons or anything else.
The player must use extreme logic to figure out where to place the materials to get the required task done.

The Graphics of The incredible machine three are mind boggling good for its time with sharp, crisp, clear SVGA quality that really makes the game enjoyable. The first time I played this game I did not play the DOS version but I played the PowerPC version on an old Macintosh we had in my 5th grade classroom. It was by far the best game there and wed all fight over who got to play it next and we would all work together to solve each puzzle. My friends and I can all still remember spending many recesses staying inside the Scribner Road classroom to play the game.

games like this one would be the predecessors The Incredible Machine two, the even more incredible machine, and the incredible machine. The part of the incredible machine three I like most is the amount of logic and thought that has to be put into each puzzle to solve it. The puzzles were hard to beat and we had spent hours on each level trying to figure out how to beat it. It really got us thinking and using patterns and logic in what we do. It taught us to be logical thinkers and quick on our feet.

Overall this is a good game now as it was a spectacular game back when the series first came out a long time ago. The game used cunning graphics, great sounds, and music. It was a well designed game, well organized and easy to use and figure out how to play. Its help guide was useful and helped us make our way through out the game and when the game was having problems it helped us get down to the problem and we would fix it right up. I give this game 4 out of 5 five star in my book it was a great game and it always will be.

Game Review 2 (written by Blazhen88) Added on: 07/26/2006
The Incredible Machine 3.0 is one of my favorite old games. I've played The Incredible Machine and The Even More Incredible Machine and they just keep getting better. I am an avid fan of puzzle games so this review will be slightly biased however.
The controls for the game, like its predecessors are simple: point and click. However, in this game you can change the way certain parts work with the computer icon. Some puzzles require you to set up laser activated outlets and you must change the color of the switch to correspond with the laser. Other things just change the way they look, like the balls and what computers show when you turn them on.
The graphics are much better than its predecessors too. For one, the balls actually roll down the ramps, instead of just sliding like in the older versions. Also the fireworks come in a variety of different colors so it is almost worth it just to see them all. It's all 2-D, but what could you really expect from a game made in 1995. Also, if you extended walls over each other they get fancy joints.
One of the very few problems I have with this game is the fairly unrealistic physics of the game. I can not count how many times I have used the false physics to complete a puzzle in a way that was probably not intended by the designers of the game. Also some of the “medium” level puzzles are quite overly challenging. I have found myself spending over 20 minutes on one puzzle and the finishing the next in less than 3 minutes. That probably is a side effect of the weird physics but it’s hard to tell.
Over all I would have to give the game a 5/5 on my scoring scale. The controls are easy to understand. If you want to just trash a piece, hover over it and poke the trash can icon or grab and drag it back to the parts bin. The pulley and rope system takes some getting used to but it is fairly straight forward if you think about it, or have been through high school physics classes. The graphics are nice, given that it’s an old game. I find the little touches like the alligator snickering after he eats something or the balls rolling down the ramp extra nice. The puzzles are very creative. I’ve tried my hand at it in the built in editor and just confuse myself with the sheer possibilities. All in all I would recommend this game.
