Breakthru for windows is similar to Tetris. It's an older game and there are newer ones that can be found that are similar.
There were in omni that talked about the affect on the electrical qualities of the brain as people played Tetris and similar games. At first the novelty of the game had circuitry firing in lots of areas, but after a while the brain got into a sort of normal or low energy state. The addictive part of the game was associated with keeping the brain in that lower electrical state.
The Tetris game itself was originally made in Russia I believe sent to us as a way to eliminate productivity in the united states...
The block setting game Breakthru is a good puzzle type of game for all ages that can use a computer. It goes a little fast and might be too difficult for the very youngest. The older compatibility type games are more difficult to download and get working. Your mileage may vary with getting things working on your computer. Computer games that are puzzle oriented are ones that I prefer to use for my kids. It keeps them busy. Different colored blocks show up and need to be clicked to eliminate. Similar to falling blocks that need to be rotated
to put in place.
These dos games don't have a lot of the flash and music that modern games have. My kids all like to watch little videos and sing along with intermixed things. That is one kind of reward that this game and similar older games don't have the capability to do. These were generally written when computers were slower, and the idea of video "payoffs" or other types of advanced rewards for the kids were beyond the expected abilities of the typical consumer computer.
Enjoy the game!
