Game Review (written by Perfectchaos) Added on: 12/22/2006
I remember playing the Crystal Maze years ago, and it's still one of my favorite games.
A lot of the games in it are directly taken from the series- including 'Mumsie', which makes the game that much more fun. Other games from the TV series include the (I think it was a mystery?) murder mystery room where you have to follow the strand of clues, The archery one in the castle zone, the one where you have to roll the yellow balls down into the Aztec statue mouths, and the infuriating 'No Lights' game where you would have to mindlessly press all the buttons until all the lights would turn off.

There are obviously, added games since some you just (literally) can't physically do since it's on the PC. You will find that the best game (which is found on every zone) is the physically challenge which played a lot like Leapfall, where you would avoid snakes or the such, and try to reach the crystal at the end. This game in particular was one that me and my sister constantly argued to play lol.
Another similarity to the TV series is that you get to choose a team of 8, and they can get locked in. This makes a lot more fun when you play with your friends and family, and you can have a laugh at each other and debate whether you're

going to let your mum out for failing yet again on the 'pairs' game in the ocean zone lol.
All four zones appear in the game, with the Ocean Zone appearing rather than the series original Industrial Zone. Although each zone has its own, unique, set of games to play, you will find similarities across the board- the 'Leapfall' game for example. However, this doesn't mar the enjoyment of the game, it just gives you another chance at proving your dad that the game really is 'simple' lol.
For an old DOS game, the music is surprisingly good. Well by music I mean the theme tune, which accompanies the TV series intro (the crystal rising from the black disk logo). Sound effects increase the atmosphere of each level; The Aztec Zones' birds being one that sticks to mind.
And when you finally finish your quest, you arrive at the Crystal Dome itself. Each player has to take turns (using the characters that didn't get locked in) clicking on every gold, not silver token they can get their hands on..... This is in fact, impossible, I've tried it so many times, but always to do no better than +20 on easy mode.
The great thing about this game though is that, no matter how many times you play it, no matter how many times you lose, you just wanna have another game. In some ways, it's like a board game, and twice the fun.
Download this if you're a fan of the series, and if you've never heard of it before, It's a great game, and trust me, you soon will be setting 'Challenge' to record on Sky+. God bless ya' Richard O'Brien (who unfortunately, doesn't make an appearance in the game.... but keep an eye out for his coat....)
