Based on the popular 90's T.V. Show, Double Dare is a simple yet highly entertaining children's computer game. While Alex Trebek is nowhere to be seen, it has many features that greatly increase its value.
The Game is divided into two parts: trivia and challenges. The trivia is relatively simple questions in which you have 3 choices for the answer. If you don't know the answer, you can "dare" the other team, giving them an option to answer the question and doubling the reward of a correct answer.
If the other team doesn't answer, they can double dare you, one again doubling amount of value of the question. At this point the team either answers the question or takes a "physical challenge."
The challenges are easy to understand and very fun. They will have you putting, throwing bananas at a Gorilla, or catching a cake. Not very innovative, but enjoyable for kids. The final challenge of the game is the obstacle course. While this obstacle course is pretty easy, it's entertaining enough.
After playing the game your total score is calculated and put into the list of high scores. If you make the list, your team name is put in, giving you bragging rights over others who play. I'll never forget how
great it was to beat my older brother's high score and rub it in his face.
The game's graphics are nothing special, but they get the job done. The music adds another element to the gameplay as you will listen to "Can Can" from La Perichole by Jacques Offenbach. The controls are easy to pick up, usually not requiring you to any more than aim hit a button. The gameplay won't blow you away but the challenges are entertaining and the trivia is solid. A particularly strong area for Double Dare is its lasting appeal. Hundreds of trivia questions will keep you wanting to play again and again. If that isn't enough, the desire to get trump someone's high score or simply to improve on your own high score is an added incentive to play again.
Overall the game stands out as a solid trivia game, much more playable than many others of its genre. Much like the T.V. Show, it's a game for the entire family and I highly recommend Double Dare to anyone.
