X-Mas Lemmings, and its forbearers, are based around the concept of hundreds of little suicidal men who wander aimlessly around the game level, falling down cliffs to their peril if left unattended. Fortunately, they're not unattended, as you watch over them and help them along the way. You have the ability to assign jobs to the various lemmings, such as digger, basher, stair-builder, and so on, to help
them all find their way to the exit. Sounds easy?
It can be... but not always. These slippery little demons can often cause you quite a bit of grief in wanting to throw themselves off any ledge they find, like their namesake suggests. And while you don't have to save every single one of them most of the time, lose one too many and it's back to the start of the level.
The graphics of X-Mas Lemmings are great; simple and classic. I doubt they'll ever go out of fashion. Sure, the lemmings might be a little pixelated, but they're so tiny and character filled that it's never bothered me a bit. The way they tremble just before you self destruct them all is adorable. :)
The sound is much in the same vein; short, simple, and sweet. Nothing overly taxing or in-your-face in this game... except for the puzzles themselves. I've got to admit that the puzzles can get a little bit harder the further into the game you get, and, combined with the game's addictivitey, prepare to get frustrated with these guys more than once during your time together.
On the whole, X-Mas Lemmings is fantastic holiday tribute to an already time-tested game formula. Lemmings games are still being made to this day, so don't hesitate and try this one out today! If I ever get tired of a Lemmings game, I'll know it's time for me to be put out to pasture.
