I bought the game Lexicross way back when I had a 286 with a 'huge' 40 mg hard drive!!!!! I believe it was about 1988. I then moved to a 486, a P1, and on up and have had it in every computer I have owned. I now have a very high speed gaming desktop and a state of the art laptop. I am a writer by trade and I teach. I need lots of inspiration and things to pass time and jog my mind.

It combines word association, crosswords, hangman, Wheel of Fortune, LINGO and spelling. Playing against the computer is truly a challenge, too.
At one point I lost the TV GUide that is needed to log in and play the game. It took about 2 years before the internet was 'big' enough to have it available.
Of course, you can play against yourself or pass the keyboard or laptop back and forth. Although I have never played it on the 'modem' capability, it probably works on the newer computers, too. Some older games like this run so fast on the newer computers that you cannot play them at all. Lexicross is not like this. It is a little fast when you are shown a whole line, but if you are quick with your glimpsing, you can catch the 'vowels' and 'safes'
It is also a game of strategy because even if you know the solution to the puzzle within a new letters, you still need enough money to try to make it into the top five High Scores. Of course, when you win, the scores go up and it is a challenge to beat those.
It also has features that let you reveal the puzzle and start another one just in case you cannot solve the puzzle. You can also exit early. It uses the 'old' F keys but they work!!!!
One more thing. The characters you can create are quite comical. Especially if you create a character from Pluto - they look way too much like the Disney Dog of the same name! The silly prizes and the personal profiles are downright goofy but very clever.
It is an early DOS game that still makes the grade as far as I'm concerned when it comes to word games. As much as I've played the game, I've only had repeated puzzles maybe 5 times - that is a lot of capability for DOS. The graphics are pretty good for an old game and the colors are bright and clear. It even has sound and a really catchy tune! If you are a word game player, this one is unlike just about anything out there. I love it!!!!
