This, the third game in the Nyet Series is the most playable of any Tetris-style game I've ever played. Originally released in 1993, I first got it in 1996 and still want to play it now, 13 years later! The real beauty of old (or should I say 'retro') games is their simplicity and easily understood goals and game play. Nyet III is no exception, with a bold, bright, and easy to use format.
Normal Tetris can get very repetitive as you are essentially trying to maintain the stamina not to lose concentration and misplace a piece which will mess up the rows above and below.
However, in Nyet 3 there are various levels, each of which has different challenges. Each level works from the basic premise of Tetris- pieces falling from the top- but the challenges really add some spice. These challenges range from things like pieces that turn invisible on being placed, the keyboard controls being reversed, to only receiving pieces of a certain sort for a whole level. The aim of each level is to clear the required number of rows, and on completion you will win some game money. This money can then be spent in the shop to help you win certain levels. (For example, a keyboard re-calibrator or dye to see invisible stones.) Unlike normal Tetris, most of the levels will not take very long to
complete, as most of the row-goals are relatively low.
The graphics are obviously not up to today's standards, but are certainly good enough to enjoy playing the game. I always find that the pieces are nice and big and it's easy to see what you're putting where which isn't always the case in Tetris-style games. Special mention must also go to the music which I always found added an extra layer of enjoyment to the game.
Overall, when you download Nyet III you're not going to get week on week of challenging puzzling from it, but you'll certainly get a good few hours of moderate difficulty to exercise the brain! I wholeheartedly recommend trying it and the high review scores are proof of just how much fun you will have!
