Game Review (written by Ironbullv) Added on: 12/29/2006
When I first played this game I thought they should make a sequel to it, with all the new graphics and stuff like that, it really would have been very cool. Later I found that they would have, but they ran out of money (or something like that). I thought to myself, how could such a good game have made Digital Tome (the makers) lose enough money to quit the project? What I think is that it was sold in chapters (six in all).

I think they should have gave out the first chapter free, then have the rest all bundled up instead of sold separately.
The game itself is, I think, very good. I like the sound track, which changes as you go to different places,

get into a fight, discover something important, or if someone dies. The graphics are pretty good, except if you fight someone, it doesn't have any good effects, like if you miss, it doesn't show that your enemy dodged it, it just has him standing there like nothing happened. The magic effects are pretty good, example: you get into a stance and then you throw it if it’s like a fireball, or if it a shielding or healing magic, then rings or something more solid appears around your character. The character itself could be more customizable with looks, since all you get to do is pick if he has a beard, what color of hair, if he has hair, and what color of cloths he starts out with, but as the game progresses you can add on armor and different items. You can also have a conversation with another character, and sometimes you can learn skills from them.
The game also has a few bad parts though, like you can't ride a horse (there everywhere). The quests are all right, but sometimes if you don't finish a quest in the chapter you got it assigned in it will stay in your quest book, but you can never complete it. Another bad feature is the carrying capacity of your person can never change, they could have changed that like if you picked up a bag you can carry more stuff. I also noticed that an enemy can shoot from off-screen and you can't.
This game is very similar to a newer one called Titan's Quest. The similarities are pretty obvious, you can add weapons and armor to your character, you can get money from selling stuff that you got off of dead characters, you have health and energy(manna in Avalon), and you also can develop your characters skills. The games are pretty close, but Titan ends up being a lot better, one reason it has none of the problems I mentioned before.
This game is very good, and I think anyone who enjoys action-packed, customizable, role-playing games will enjoy this one.
