Game Review (written by Libelandslander) Added on: 08/25/2006
This game is truly a classic, the first in a great, persevering, always addictive series. It is all around fun, but a real challenge! At times it can be incredibly frustrating - but if you are a real role playing game addict, like me, then you have a good challenge and you exactly found what you're looking for. Sometimes it is so frustrating you want to burst into tears and slam your mouse to the ground, but it is definitely worth working through - because it's incredibly fun at the moments that are not frustrating! If this game was longer, I would play it for hours and hours.
But unfortunately it’s always done too soon.
Fortunately, this game was the beginning of an amazing series wherein the other games are much longer. The most recent bard’s tale game is one of the most amazing games I've ever played - full of comedy, and enjoyable game play - worth the hours I wasted on it. Musical humor rules! It really is an updated version of Bards Tale 1.
And being a fan of the later games, of course I have to remember the greatness of this game. It's old and can very much seem that way, irritatingly bad graphics and slow play at times, but I am a lover of classic games. Especially classic RPG. Why care about how pixilated and

bad the graphics are when you love the game play? For example, final fantasy - very much one of the greatest, and most legendary series of all time, and it is now a lasting legacy - but would it be that way were it not for the first game?
Classic gaming is an integral part of the current game-play situation. Bards Tale 1 reminds me of that, even through those moments when I want to say "Screw it, I'm playing the new game!" because it's history for gamers. We should never forget our sub cultural heritage. Classic video games are awesome, and should never be forgotten;
Especially ones like this - addictive, fun, complicated, amusing. I love this game and it will never cease to be amusing! It is definitely a game for the times.
If you like this awesome game, I strongly recommend playing 2, 3 and the most recent. They are all really fun and get continually better! Yes, they improved this wonderful game! I hope the series continues and the legacy grows.

I have enjoyed every version of the Bard's Tale that I have played. The game is very enjoyable. I hope that you enjoy playing it as much as I have.

Bard's Tale 1 was my introduction to computer gaming. I loved it. I still have my 3.5 floppy disks with my character files. I just got rid of the 5.25 floppy disks that I had started with because (sob) they had gotten moldy from the basement flooding.

I remember playing this one when I was young, I try to find new games that have the same addictive traits as this one. I like the character creation engine, though I abused it a lot. The way that I remember it, you could make a group and then just add one person from that group and make a bunch of new random chars and steal their gold and items to sell, making your main party start off with better items and money.
